Local AFS Volunteers enroll students in high school and support students and their families to help both gain the most from their experience. In conjunction with his talk, the AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland seeks to recruit volunteers to participate in a city-wide "Wrap it Up" condom distribution during the afternoon and evening of Friday July 25th. People will team up in small groups and distribute condoms and safer-sex literature in various locations throughout the city; public places where people tend to congregate, such as the warehouse district, Coventry , cedar-lee, public square, etc.
To do this, we really need your help! Please consider volunteering a couple hours on the evening of Friday July 25th for this worthwhile effort! Here is the schedule:
7:00 p.m. Meet at the Taskforce ( 3210 Euclid Avenue ) for a brief training and pizza
7:30 p.m. Head out to your assigned area to distribute condoms
9:45 p.m. Meet back at the Taskforce to process and reflect on your experience
10:00 p.m. Go home!

ACCESS is seeking an intern to assist with childcare and programming for children and teens – a great opportunity for students in sociology, early childhood, family and child development, psychology, social work, women’s studies or education. Interns are asked to donate approximately 20 hours or more per week – which may include some evenings and weekends (although most hours are through the week). We ask that interns begin in August or September and work with us for a semester.

All that is required of our hosting families is that they can provide a warm and loving environment for our students and are interested in encouraging the student to become an active member of their family.
As a Hosting Family You:
Welcome a student into your home as a family member
Provide an individual bed and meals
Maintain contact with your CIEE Local Coordinator
Provide your student with necessary transportation or assisting in arranging alternate transportation i.e. a bike, car pool, etc. to and from school
Attend host family orientations, student welcome meetings and farewell parties
We offer hosting opportunities for the either the semester or academic year program. Additionally, families may choose to welcome a student to the community by hosting for a short-term period (approx. 3 weeks)

Volunteer project: In collaboration with a local voluntary organization and with the help of “Un Etai pour le Vietnam”, the international volunteers will help run a school for street children and children in a poor fishing village, located on the bank of Red river, in the outskirts of Hanoi. Volunteers will be responsible for cooking lunch for 25-30 children and teaching them basic things about their countries, health, etc. (with the help of the local volunteers). It is more important to keep the children in the school and help them behave as normal students. The volunteers will also organize some leisure activities for youth after school. This is indeed a time for cultural exchange and embracing the new relationships.
Special requirements: Volunteers should be prepared to live with children having social problems although they are very friendly. The volunteers will work in special social and cultural environment and have to be flexible. They are expected to be motivated and to participate actively in the running of the project. The volunteers will use local bus and/or second hand bicycles for their transportation and need to be able to ride a bicycle in a city.

Volunteer project: The international volunteer project will be held in Machakos District for 3 weeks. Volunteers will come together to demonstrate the power of voluntary service in meeting critical needs of the local communities. The main objective of the volunteer project is Children's Welfare.
Volunteer work: The volunteers will be involved in teaching, counseling, playing, cooking and feeding children in a children's home. They will also
Participants should have a positive attitude, be ready to adopt and enjoy simple living conditions, be flexible and patient. However, specialized skills and expertise (such as counseling and peer education knowledge) will be used accordingly.
Location: Machakos is located in the Eastern province, about 1 and half hours drive from Nairobi (50 km). The home is located in Machakos, about 10 minutes drive from Machakos town. Public transport is available. The closest hospital is 10 minutes drive. Markets, Post Office, Banks (ATMs), Internet and other facilities are located in Machakos, 10 minutes walk from the project site.
The Ghost Rider Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces that have been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
The GRF has two missions:
1. To educate people about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This will eliminate the stigma attached to PTSD. This will also allow veterans and their families to recognize PTSD and seek help.
2. To provide direct financial assistance to veterans diagnosed with PTSD for living expenses, additional counseling or other needs as approved by the board of directors.
To accompish these missions we plan to have educational seminars for the community, active duty military and veterans and their families. These will take place pre-deployment, during deployment and post-deployment. It is our hope that providing education will remove the stigma attached with PTSD and will also ensure that it is recognized so that it can be diagnosed and treated.
We also want to help veterans diagnosed with PTSD on an individual basis. We hope to do this by providing individual grants. The GRF will provide direct financial assistance to veterans diagnosed with PTSD or to their families. Grants will be made on an individual basis as approved by the board of directors for living expenses, additional counseling, family counseling, or for other needs stated by the veteran.
This foundation was formed in memory of a USMC veteran who took his own life due to an acute epsiode of PTSD. His friends and family hope that by providing education and assistance they can prevent this from happening again.
