Genesis Media Labs G2885 Tower Speakers / White Van Speakers - I found these in a lot sale of vintage speakers I decided to buy. There were several pairs I wanted, but had to buy them all. Instantly, I knew exactly what they were, but for curiosity, I bought them. One of these speakers was open and one was sealed in the box, (we still have both boxes). When I got back to the shop, I took them both out, hooked them to good Fluke VOM to check impedance. They were both measured at exactly 7.7 Ohms. Hmm Pretty close.
I gathered a 50 Watt test amp, some speaker cables, and connected them. To my surprise, they sounded better than I thought they should. I was actually a bit shocked. Absolutely not worth the $2500.00 each, as printed on the box label, (its pure BS), but perhaps a deal at the above price. These each have 2 - 4" Aluminum Cone Drivers, a 1" Soft Dome Midrange, and a 10" Sub. I hesitate to use any of the specs off the box, as I am sure its all pure BS hype. The cabinets are cheap with printed wood grain material. The upper and lower sub grills are removable. See photos. These would make great cheap garage, shop, or test speakers, as they make noise. The non-precise sound, has loads of bass, some decent midrange and high end. Don't mistake these for audiophile quality, but they are worth what I am asking. These are a great conversation piece and after all make some decent sounds. I will let you hear them, something a white van seller never would! Please give us notice you are thinking about listening to them.

So you ask what is a white van speaker? The "white van speaker" is a known sales technique in which a shyster makes a buyer believe they are getting a good price on expensive home entertainment products. The sell relatively generic speakers that are usually printed with a very expensive label and catchy name, to convince potential buyers that they are premium products worth hundreds of dollars. They offer buyers an "real opportunity" to buy them at a heavily discounted price, but actually a heavy markup from their real value. For example the boxes these white van speakers came in have a printed label marked $2249 each !!! We feel $60 bucks is in order. The scam was common in the 1980s and despite widespread information about the scam they continue operate today.
